Been meaning to try that restaurant you’ve had saved for months? This is the week. From 9 to 15 November, Foodie Black Week BCN, dubbed the “Black Friday of food”, is back: restaurants, bars, cocktail bars, cafés and food markets across Barcelona offer special menus, 2-for-1s and reduced prices for seven days.
It’s the fourth edition, organised with Barcelona Restauració, and this year it leaves the city for the first time, reaching towns such as Badalona, Sant Cugat, Gavà and Santa Coloma de Gramenet. Previous editions brought together more than 450 venues and over 200,000 diners, according to the organisers.
What is it? A week in which each participating restaurant launches its own deal: a special menu, a discount, a 2-for-1 or something on the house.
Why go? It’s the perfect excuse to try new places or go back to your favourites for less.

How it works
There are no tickets or wristbands. Go to the official website, open the restaurant map (there’s another one for leisure venues) and filter by:
- Neighbourhood or town: from Ciutat Vella, Gràcia or Sant Antoni to Poblenou, Sants or Sarrià.
- Type of cuisine: Catalan, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Peruvian, brunch, burgers, tapas, vegetarian, pastry shops…
- Type of deal: discount, special menu, 2-for-1, reduced prices or a free extra.
You can book from each listing. Every venue is free to design its own offer, so there’s a bit of everything: from a fine-dining tasting menu to a beer with a tapa.
A few examples
- Nectari: special tasting menu for €75, instead of €110.
- Soda Bus: 2-for-1 burgers.
These are just two examples: the full list, with hundreds of venues, is on the website map and keeps growing over the week.
Chefs and guest city
“We don’t want to tell diners where to eat, but to give them reasons to go out and choose,” said Marc Miramontes, the creator of Foodie Black Week, at the launch of this edition.
This edition’s ambassador is Nacho Lozano from Bar Lobo, and the launch was attended by chefs including Carlota Claver (La Gormanda), Ly Leap (Indochine), Jordi Esteve (Nectari) and Óscar Álvarez (Barra Oso).
The guest city is Zaragoza, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, bringing its hearty inland cooking to Barcelona: ternasco lamb, borage, migas, longaniza sausage and Aragonese-style snails.
My tips
- Book early if you have somewhere in mind: the best-known restaurants fill up.
- When booking, ask whether the deal is valid for lunch and dinner or just one sitting.
- Follow @foodieblackweek on Instagram: they’re giving away lunches and dinners for two at participating restaurants.
- If you want to keep going, the Hotel Tapa Tour is also on until 15 November: read about it in my Hotel Tapa Tour article.
