Every autumn Barcelona gets a new crop of restaurants, and this year’s is a strong one: a three-Michelin-star chef in the old Tickets space, a bar with huge portions arriving from Nou Barris, pizza from the Empordà and a tiny Argentine kitchen uptown.
I’ve gathered this season’s openings plus two from earlier this year that everyone is still talking about. For each one: where it is, what to order and how much it costs.
The openings at a glance
For a special occasion Osteria Condal and Mineral
To eat a lot for around €35 Bar Gros and Parada Torres
For lunch Pizzabar, set menu from €18.60
The smallest Piedra, around 24 seats
Piedra, Argentine cooking uptown
Piedra has just opened at carrer d’Amigó 33. It’s a small project by Soledad Lema, in the kitchen, and Gonzalo Francisco San Martín, sommelier and front of house. The cooking is Argentine on a Mediterranean and Catalan base, with the odd French touch, served as sharing plates.
On the menu you’ll find a liver-filled choux, a beef empanada with Asian and Mexican sauce, courgette on fainá and, for dessert, flan with dulce de leche ice cream. The wine list runs to around 500 references.
What is it? A small Argentine restaurant on a Mediterranean base, with sharing plates.
Why go? It seats around 24 and doesn’t double up sittings, so nobody rushes you.

Osteria Condal, the Italian in the old Tickets space
At Paral·lel 164, once home to Tickets and then Teatro, Osteria Condal opened in September. The menu is by Paolo Casagrande, chef of three-Michelin-star Lasarte, and Andrea Fiori runs the kitchen day to day. It mixes Italian and Catalan cooking.
According to the Guía Repsol, there are two tasting menus, Frenesia and Paral·lel, plus one designed for sharing. Dishes that keep coming up are the squid tartare carbonara-style, the charcoal-grilled pigeon and the airbag tiramisu. Good to know if you’re young: under-30s get 15% off the Paral·lel menu from Tuesday to Thursday, for now.
What is it? Italian and Catalan cooking with a menu by Paolo Casagrande, chef of Lasarte.
Why go? It’s the most ambitious opening of the autumn, in one of the city’s best-known spaces.

Bar Gros, huge portions in the Eixample
Bar Gros is the new place from Jordi Millán and Sara Martín, the people behind Casa Angelita, which they opened in Nou Barris in 2014. It’s the group’s first opening in the city centre, at Provença 202, and it opened in early September.
According to the figures Time Out published when it opened, the average bill is around €35. Classic market cooking in big portions: Russian salad (€7.90), a spoon “bomba” filled with oxtail, cod pil-pil tacos, a whole sea bass to share, almost a kilo, for €39, and aged beef chop. For dessert, crema catalana flan or torrija with mel i mató.
What is it? A market-cooking bar with sharing portions, from the team behind Casa Angelita.
Why go? You eat a lot, and well, for a fair price right in the Eixample.

Pizzabar, Empordà pizza comes to Barcelona

One of Pizzabar’s pizzas.
Pizzabar started in May 2024 in Sant Feliu de Boada, in the Baix Empordà, and on 10 September it opened its second place at carrer de París 205, on the corner with Enric Granados. It makes thin, crispy pizza with almost all-Catalan ingredients, except the tomato, which is Italian, plus creative tapas such as cap i pota wonton and oysters with tiger’s milk.
What is it? A pizzeria with creative tapas, wine and cocktails, from the Empordà.
Why go? It has a lunch menu from €18.60 and opens every day.

Mineral, the opening of the year next to the Mercat del Ninot
It opened in spring and it’s still one of the most talked-about tables in town: the newspaper Ara called it the best food news of the year in Barcelona. Mineral is at Mallorca 166, next to the Mercat del Ninot, and it’s run by Oliver Peña, formerly at Teatro, and Cristina Losada, sommelier and former director of Enigma.
It’s market cooking with lots of technique and no fuss. You eat at the counter facing the kitchen or at one of a few tables. Think quail, grilled and escabeche-style, turbot with ganxet beans or beef tendons. The average bill is around €60 without wine.
What is it? Creative market cooking, with a counter facing the kitchen and a wine list strong on Catalan wines.
Why go? It’s the most praised new restaurant of the year in the city. Book well ahead.

Parada Torres, the Torres brothers at the Mercat de Santa Caterina
The Torres brothers, with three Michelin stars, opened a bar inside the Mercat de Santa Caterina in May. Parada Torres serves neighbourhood and market cooking, with a circular bar and a glass wall looking onto the market.
What people order most: patatas bravas, Russian salad with cured sea bass, beef pepito, battered prawns, torreznos and baked macaroni. It comes to around €35 per person. If you like markets, here are my favourite markets in Barcelona.
What is it? The Torres brothers’ market bar, with tapas and classic dishes.
Why go? Three-star chefs’ cooking at bar prices, open until midnight.
