For a date, an anniversary or just a night out together, these are my romantic things to do in Barcelona. They range from free plans to special occasions, and they’re all on the Mapa Inspira with the address and how to get there.
The basics
- Free
- a sunset at the Bunkers del Carmel
- Special occasion
- a cocktail on The Edition’s rooftop
- To surprise them
- La Pedrera by night or an opera at the Liceu
If you’re looking for something for today or this weekend, you’ve got my things to do in Barcelona, which I update every day.
Sunsets and views
- Bunkers del Carmel. The most famous view in Barcelona at sunset. Bring something to drink.
- Mirador del MNAC. From the top of the steps of the Palau Nacional. If it coincides with the Font Màgica, you get a wonderful view without the crowds.
- Port Cable Car (Telefèric del Port). From Barceloneta to Montjuïc through the air, in a cable car from 1931.
More viewpoints in the best places to watch the sunset.
A cocktail up high
- The Edition rooftop. The most elegant terrace in Barcelona, with an infinity pool and views of the Cathedral. For special occasions: order the “Edition” cocktail with the sunset behind you.
- La Terraza del Pulitzer. A garden rooftop next to plaça de Catalunya, with a DJ at sunset.
- 173 Rooftop at the InterContinental. 360° views at the foot of Montjuïc. Go up at blue hour, when the city lights come on.
All my terraces, in Barcelona’s terraces with views.
Nights of culture
- La Pedrera Night Experience. A guided night tour of La Pedrera that ends on the roof terrace with a light show over the chimneys. €39.50 per person.
- Gran Teatre del Liceu. The horseshoe-shaped auditorium with five tiers of boxes, right on the Rambla since 1847. How to go without spending a fortune, in my Liceu guide.
- Palau de la Música and then the Bar de l’Antic Teatre. A concert in a masterpiece of modernisme and, afterwards, a drink in the hidden courtyard of the Antic Teatre, next door.
- Tarantos. Flamenco in Plaça Reial: about 40 minutes of singing, dancing and guitar, perfect before dinner.
Cinema, dinner and a stroll
- Films in their original language. At Cinemes Verdi in Gràcia or at the Filmoteca de Catalunya in the Raval, which is very reasonably priced. How to string it together with dinner and drinks without taking the metro, in my evening plans.
- An evening stroll around Gràcia. Walk up carrer de Verdi, head down to plaça de la Revolució and finish on a terrace.
- LaMalva. Mediterranean cooking in the Eixample, with an elegant interior, good cocktails and live music some nights.
To choose a restaurant, you’ve got the best restaurants in Barcelona sorted by neighbourhood and, to celebrate something, the Michelin-starred restaurants.
A kiss in the Gòtic
- Mural del Beso. “El món neix en cada besada”, by Joan Fontcuberta: a giant kiss made from thousands of photos sent in by people from Barcelona. And in El Born, Alberto León’s “El beso” graffiti, if it’s still there.
A getaway
- Juvé & Camps cava cellars. In Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, an hour from Barcelona: vineyards, cellars and one of the most historic cava houses. Book well ahead.
More plans by theme
- For when it gets late, my Barcelona at night plans.
- Without spending, my free things to do in Barcelona.
- And all my things to do in Barcelona, with what’s on today and this weekend.
