The Fundació Joan Miró devotes its big autumn show to Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999), the French architect and designer who changed how we think about the modern home. Charlotte Perriand. Free to Rethink the World runs from 9 October 2026 to 28 February 2027.

The basics

Where Fundació Joan Miró, Montjuïc Park · When until 28 February 2027, 10:00 to 19:00

Tickets €11 to €18, included in general admission · Metro Espanya (L1, L3) and bus 55 or 150

What you will see

The show follows four decades of her career across around ten sections of projects, photographs, documents and archive material. Highlights:

  • Salle à manger 28, one of her early interior designs.
  • Interior proposals developed with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret.
  • The photomural La Grande Misère de Paris.
  • The reconstructed prototype Équipement intérieur d’une habitation (1929).

It also explores her relationship with nature and the Mediterranean landscape, her travels to Japan and Vietnam, her friendship with Josep Lluís Sert, her links to the GATCPAC and the 1937 Spanish Republic Pavilion. That is what makes it a very Barcelona exhibition.

Why it is worth it

Perriand designed for living, not posing: light furniture, open kitchens, daylight and views. Seeing her work inside Sert’s building, with the terraces and gardens of Montjuïc outside, is one of those visits where architecture and content talk to each other.

A full Montjuïc plan

  1. Visit the exhibition first thing, when it is quieter.
  2. Stroll through the foundation’s gardens and sculpture terrace.
  3. Walk down to Poble-sec for lunch or tapas: here is a cultural route through the neighbourhood.

The Fundació Miró has no weekly free day, but it opens free on set dates such as Santa Eulàlia (12 February) and La Mercè (24 September). For museums that are free every week, see free museums in Barcelona.
