1 November is Tots Sants, All Saints’ Day, and in Barcelona it is a family affair: the night before with the Castanyada, and on the day itself visiting the cemetery with flowers.

This year it falls on a Sunday, so there is no extra day off. Here is how the cemeteries work those days, how to get there and what is on, because some of it is worth a visit even if you have no one to visit.

All Saints’ Day 2026 at a glance

When Sunday 1 November, no long weekend · Cemeteries open 8:00 to 18:00 on the 31st and the 1st

Getting there extra 107 and 21 buses and a shuttle from Plaça d’Espanya · Don’t miss the Mexican altar to Gaudí in Poblenou

1 November is a Sunday, so no long weekend

Tots Sants is a public holiday in Catalonia, but in 2026 it falls on a Sunday and is not moved to Monday. Monday 2 is a normal working day. On Sunday the city runs like any other Sunday: most shops closed, bars and restaurants open.

The night before, Saturday 31, is the Castanyada. I explained where to buy chestnuts and the best panellets in my Castanyada guide.

Cemetery opening hours on All Saints’ Day

According to Cementiris de Barcelona, on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November:

  • All the city’s cemeteries are open to the public from 8:00 to 18:00.
  • The offices extend their hours, from 8:00 to 17:30.

There are flower stalls at Sant Andreu and Poblenou from 24 October to 2 November, and at Les Corts from 30 October to 1 November, from 8:00 to 18:00.

A tip: if you are looking for a particular grave, use the deceased locator and the maps on the Cementiris de Barcelona website before you go. Sunday gets busy and it saves a lot of wandering.

Getting there: extra buses and a shuttle

TMB adds services on the lines to the biggest cemeteries.

Montjuïc

  • Line 107, special service 26 to 31 October and extra buses on 1 November
  • Line 21, more frequent on 1 November
  • Shuttle from Plaça d’Espanya, 1 November only

Collserola

  • Lines 102 and 104, extra buses on 31 October and 1 November
  • Check TMB timetables before you set off

For Montjuïc, the shuttle from Plaça d’Espanya is the easiest option on Sunday.

What to do at the cemeteries on Sunday 1

Masses for the dead. Sants at 10:00, Poblenou and Les Corts at 10:30, and Sarrià and Sant Andreu at 11:00.

The Mexican altar to Gaudí in Poblenou. From 10:00, the MEXCAT association sets up a Day of the Dead altar in memory of Antoni Gaudí, who died exactly 100 years ago, in 1926. It is the loveliest plan of the day and the one I would not miss.

A concert for Clavé. At 13:00, also in Poblenou, there is a concert in tribute to Josep Anselm Clavé, founder of Catalonia’s popular choirs.

The hearse collection at Montjuïc. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00, with a free guided tour at 12:00. Alongside the horse-drawn hearses there is now the exhibition L’Últim Viatge, which uses Playmobil figures to explain farewell rituals from ancient Egypt to modernista Barcelona.

Two cemeteries you visit like a museum

Poblenou is the city’s oldest cemetery, dating from the late 18th century. It is small, easy to walk round and home to one of Barcelona’s most photographed sculptures, The Kiss of Death.

Montjuïc opened in 1883 on the side of the mountain facing the sea. It is huge, with modernista mausoleums and the graves of figures such as Francesc Macià, Lluís Companys and Joan Miró.

Both are open all year. Autumn weekends are the best time to go, with milder weather and low, soft light.
