Some Barcelona plans leave you with more than a photo. At Atelier Meravelles, a sewing studio in the Sant Pere neighbourhood, you walk out with a garment you made yourself, and the feeling that clothes can be mended, reworked and reinvented instead of thrown away.
It calls itself a Laboratori del Vestir, a clothing lab, and it has been teaching since 2005. Here are its classes, what they cost and which one to choose.

A lab for learning to make your own clothes
The studio is run by Estela Martí Huguet, who leads fashion design, teaching and art direction, together with Gerard Martí Huguet. The idea is that anyone, of any age, can learn to reuse, transform and create their own clothes.
What I like most is their approach to fashion. They work with responsible use of materials, including surplus fabric from the fashion industry, and teach you to be independent with a needle. If you are interested in fashion made here, you may also enjoy the story of Simorra.
Classes and prices
The studio opens Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 20:30 and Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00, closed Sunday and Monday. Classes run mornings and afternoons, in small groups.
Short workshops
- Artist’s bag, 1 class of 2 h, 45 €

The most popular is the intensive, which the studio says gives you the methods to make all your own clothes. If you have never sewn, start with the express dress workshop: two sessions and you take a dress home. And if your wardrobe is full of clothes you no longer wear, the customisation course is for you.

Besides the courses, Atelier Meravelles runs tailor-made experiences:
- Happy Day. Sew and personalise a garment or accessory. 2 hours, 35 € per person, from 4 people.
- Fashion Time & Wine. Turn a T-shirt from your wardrobe into a one-off piece, with wine. 2 h 30 min, 39 €, from 4 people.
- Celebration Day. For celebrations, customising clothes for the occasion. 2 h 30 min, 45 €, from 6 people.
- Design your T-shirt. A hands-on session to create a T-shirt in your own style. 2 h 30 min, 45 €.
- Team building. A creative workshop for work teams. 3 hours, 45 € per person, from 10 people.
Fashion Time & Wine strikes me as a great idea for a birthday or an afternoon with friends, in the spirit of my evening plans in Barcelona.

The shortest workshop, the artist’s bag, costs 45 euros for one 2-hour class. The pattern-making, design and sewing course is 85 euros for 4 classes, and the intensive, the most popular, is 165 euros for 5 two-hour classes.
Do I need to know how to sew
No. The studio says no previous experience is needed, groups are small and there are options for all ages. To start from scratch, the express dress workshop is just 2 classes of 2 hours.
Do they run workshops for groups or companies
Yes. There are experiences for groups of friends or celebrations from 35 euros per person, with a minimum of 4 or 6 people depending on the plan, and team building for companies from 10 people at 45 euros per person.
